The market is the driving force of art. Its operation is vital in reviving unknown works and in maintaining the movement of works that makes collecting possible… In turn, collecting is what feeds the passion for works of art, which would die out without it… Collecting needs to be supported and encouraged, not only as investment, but also as passion…
The third element is the museum, which has always had a close link with collecting, from which sector it has received a large part of its treasures. But the museum is an immobile and one-way destination, and its role must not predominate over the vital function of the market and collecting… The equilibrium between the three components needs to be maintained in the fascinating art world.
